The SCC Board of Directors — on SCC Executive Director Carmen Milenkovic’s advice — has put Waterfront Fine Craft Market on hiatus beginning June 2016. After many years of trying to make this market successful, it became evident that our efforts weren’t creating an event that attracted a large audience or generated abundant sales for our marketers. We’ve come to realize that outdoor markets and Fine Craft don’t blend well together, and so, instead of continuing to tinker with different staging grounds, or praying that the weather won’t play havoc (too hot, too rainy, too windy, too cold), we are putting it on hold.
We are still committed to bringing market experiences to Saskatoon. For example, we’re joining forces with SaskGalleries to present Saskatchewan Fine Art & Craft Fair in September featuring one of a kind work. We are also exploring new relationships with other venues that could result in more frequent market opportunities beginning this spring/summer.
So while Waterfront won’t be happening, the SCC will continue to create commercial opportunities for our Juried members — to sell our members’ Fine Craft to Saskatoon and area consumers and collectors.
