ALERT READER OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to Cec Cote, the winner of the "Alert Reader of the Week" award. Last edition's easy-to-spot intentional error was in the Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival announcement, the word "Vacation" was spelled, "Vacashun." If you see what you consider to be a typo, send it to Colin Wallace, but you have to be fast, Cec sent her findings within fifteen minutes after the email was sent!

NEWS OF THE WEEK

Press Conference for Philadelphia - The Government of Canada showed its support for Canadian Fine Craft this week, as Canadian Heritage and Status of Women announced $15,000 in funding through the Trade Routes program for the Saskatchewan Craft Council at a press conference at the SCC Gallery, July 19th.

The funding is in support of the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s participation in the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, the largest and most prestigious Fine Craft shows in the United States. 26 Canadian craft artists will be exhibiting in Philadelphia, and Saskatchewan will be strongly represented by SCC Members Megan Courtney Broner, Melvin Malkin, and Rod & Denise Simair. The Honourable Carol Skelton was in attendance to make the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, “We are proud to encourage the Saskatchewan craft industry to showcase Canadian works on the international scene,” said Skelton. A supporter of craft in Saskatchewan for many years, she added her personal delight at seeing local craft artists step up to the international stage.

Previous funding from Trade Routes will help cover the shipping costs for the artisans to send their work to Philadelphia. The funding announced this week will allow the SCC to produce an outstanding catalogue of Saskatchewan craft artists to inform American gallery owners and collectors of the range and quality of work produced here.
