ARTS NEWS

Status of Artist Legislation: The Government of Saskatchewan has introduced amendments to the Status of the Artist Act.  A Legislative Committee will deal with questions such as whether collective bargaining can work in the arts and culture sector, how representation for artists and engagers would be determined, and so on. Public hearings are scheduled for the end of February. The SCC Board will present a brief to this Legislative Committee. If you have any issues that you want considered  by this drafting committee, or if you have any questions, please contact:

Federal Funding for the Canada Council: The Canadian Arts Coalition is conducting a campaign to lobby the federal government for increased funding to the Canada Council. For information on this campaign and how you can help, visit the Canadian Arts Coalition.

Michael at the Mendel: The Michael Hosulak exhibition Containment at the Mendel in Saskatoon is creating a buzz. It’s so exciting that Saskatoon’s police and rescue services felt compelled to intervene (See: Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Saturday, Jan 27). Take in this exhibition – and while you are at the Mendel, tell them how refreshing it is to see an exhibition of Craft.

Michael Hosaluk Containment live performance: SML (Small, Medium, Large) and the Mendel Art Gallery presents the World Premiere of the live performance portion of Michael Hosaluk's Containment Installation, "Chair Monologues and Other Acts of Chairorists."  Written and directed by Henry Woolf, inspired by Michael Hosaluk and cohort, performed by Paul Crepeau at the Mendel Art Gallery, 950 Spadina Crescent East. The performance previews on Feb 18 at 2:00 pm. The Opening will be on Feb 19 at 7:00 pm, running evenings until Feb 23 at 7:00 pm. Show Matinee times include, Feb 18, 24, and closing on Feb 25 at 2:00 pm. Admission is free and nonrefundable.
